WALL REPAIR
WALL REPAIR AND SKIMCOAT
After
Before
The hallmark for any decorative wall finish, is a sound structure. You can't do venetian plaster or any faux finish without checking to see if the surface is ready for such a project. Walls that have cracks, dips, dents, bumps, stains, depressions, moisture problems, mold, and loose old cracking paint, will never hold up for any type of finish, let alone a fresh coat of paint. The top pictures shows an example of ruined walls. In that project, old sheetrock was removed (ceiling and left wall), and the right side wall repaired/skimcoated. The new sheetrock was installed over existing framing which was inspected, then corner beads applied and up to 3 coats of fresh plaster and compound. The area was lightly sanded and primed, and then one final coat of plaster (level 5 skimcoat) over wall, lightly sanded and carefully inspected. Primed one more time, and then 2 finish coats of white flat paint. The end result, a brand new wall, ready for decorative finishes.
We do wall surgery and repair, and some sheetrocking. Ceilings and walls are detailed. The primers we use will depend on the extant of wear and tear the wall has. Special blue and red pigmented primers such as 'plaster weld' are for serious repairs and deep holes. In some cases, new sheetrock must be installed.
SKIMCOAT is the procedure to establish a smooth wall finish free from imperfections such as the 'orange peel' look due to hundreds of coats of old paint, cracks, and massive peelings.
During appointment, a full discussion will be given to wall repair projects along with a prewritten proposal detailing the scope of work.
During
The 6 pictures below involved a wall that has been through hundreds of coats of paint, the surface resembled the orange peel loaded with hills, dips, bumps, cracks, and holes. The project consisted of removal of old moldings, surface detailing, special primer, and 3 coats of plaster/compound. The last coat is skimmed and sanded with fine sandpaper. Then the walls were sprayed, using 1 coat of latex primer and 2 coats of custom paint. The result was...AN ULTRA SMOOTH FINISH RESEMBLING SLATE PLEASING TO TOUCH AND LOOK AT. The customer of this project was very impressed and astonished and the quality as well as the possibilty to renovate the enitre surface as shown.
